Tóm tắt He beginning period of the Nationalist China,when it was under the reign of Yuan Shikai,was a significant transition from the monarchy of thousands years old to a political institution completely strange in Chinese history. The republicanism,quite opposite to the monarchy,might be established once its people could have a happier life. Many scholars regarded the republicanism as being revolutionary,so preferring traditional society rather than political progress,that a consensus was achieved among the scholars of both old and new generations that the republicanism was worse than such monarchy as the Qing Dynasty. But,such discontents were mostly from the scholars rather than from the commonalities. We must be better warned by the contradictory phenomenon of intricacies that the complicated situation at the beginning of the Republican China must be viewed in a longer perspective of history studies.
Tóm tắt 民国初期袁世凯当政的那几年,告别数千年的帝制,尝试一种前所未有且所知不多的全新政治体制,是整个中国历史上一段举足轻重的过渡时期。从长远看,"共和"与"专制"是竞争的关系。若民国能让人民感觉比过去更好,新政体便固若金汤。但不少士人以革命的眼光看待共和,重视社会甚于政治;民国不如清,成为很多新旧士人的共识。不过这更多或是那些关注社会革命的读书人代民失望,一般老百姓似未见那么多不满。这些错综复杂的矛盾现象提示我们,需要以长程的历史眼光具体考察民初尝试共和期间方方面面的变与不变。
