Tóm tắt Headlines are generally brief, concise and emotional. Due to those special features, rhetorical measures frequently appear in both English and Vietnamese newpaper headlines. The question is how to express the maximum of semantic content from a minimum number of words? It is said that the rhetorical measures are often used as a helpful mean with which the journalists create compelling headlines. In terms of semantics, this article focuses on describing, analyzing and providing comments for the fundamental modes of meaning transference that often appear in newspaper headlines in English and Vietnamese.
