Tóm tắt Headlines are generally breief, concise and emotional. Due to those special; features, rhetorical measures frequently appear in both English and Vietnamese newspaper headlines. The question is how to express the maximum of semantic content from a minimum number of words? It is said that the rhetorical measures are often used as a helpful mean with which the journalists create compelling headlines. In term of semantics, this article focuses on describing, analyzing and providing comments for the fundamental modes of meaning transference that often apperas in newspaper headlines in English and Vietnamese.
