Hải Phòng’s Urban Change 1955–1986.

Tóm tắt Hải Phòng is one of the largest cities in Vietnam with an important role in the country’s economy and defense. Yet studies regarding the city’s development and changes are still limited. A main obstacle for Hải Phòng’s urban study is the lack of systematic and reliable records and analyses, especially for the 1955–1986 period, when Hải Phòng underwent major structural changes in a radical move towards the new socialist order. This essay attempts to bridge the gap by using relevant articles published in the Hải Phòng official daily newspaper to identify and explain the most significant urban changes in Hải Phòng during this critical period.
