Tóm tắt 《天下》(T’ien Hsia Monthly)是1930年代中叶至1940年代初在上海发行的英文杂志,由南京中山文化教育馆资助,旨在向西方介绍中国文化,文学在其中占据相当比重。由于意在文化输出,故以英语为载体,这使《天下》免于介入当时的文学论争,从而能够在一片"感时忧国"的氛围中,保持相对的独立。体现在文学观上,便是重实用、重担当、重进步的乐观精神和重个人、重审美、重反思的怀疑态度两股力量间的相互角力。而这一角力过程,不仅可以视作中国现代文学发展的一种缩影,也折射了当时知识分子在面对时代巨变时充满困惑的精神状态。
Tóm tắt Sponsored by Sun Yat-sen Institute for the Advancement of Culture and Education,T’ien Hsia Monthly was published in Shanghai in the mid-1930’s and the early 1940’s,to introduce to the western readers the Chinese culture,esp. Chinese literature. As an English magazine,T’ien Hsia Monthly was quite independent of the periodicals of the time,for most of them were shrouded in such pessimism that most Chinese intellectuals at that time just mourned the fall of history and were worried about the future of China. The uniqueness of this monthly magazine was distinctive in its literary concept characteristic of a conflict between a pragmatic,self-committing and progressive optimism and an individualistic,aesthetic and self-reflecting skepticism. This tension reflects a microcosm of the development of modern Chinese literature and the mentality of the modern intellectuals in a time of changes,thus deserving our serious studies.
