Tóm tắt The entwinement of translation and violence makes the causes and forms of the latter a worthy topic for translation studies. The cultural connotations of violence in a multicultural society are closely related to the understanding of the nature of translation. It is out of the necessity to overcome untranslatability that violence is resorted to as a reluctantly chosen means. And since translation is primarily determined by the power relations between the source and the target languages, the involvement of violence to various degrees is unavoidable in the process of translation. Violence influences translation activities in a fundamental way
