Tóm tắt This paper deals with words formed by changing cluster initials of words recorded in A. de Rhode s Dictionarivm Annamitcivm lvsitanvm, et Latinvm ope in 17th century. For example, blạt> bật - lật - trật- trật lất; tlo u > trống - trống lống; mlat >lát - nhát;... Alose, ít deals with word formed bay changing initials or cluster initials of other words recorded in other dictionaries, eg. buồn - muốn; bủn - mủn; mờ - lờ - nhờ; trệch (chệch) - lệch...What we found is thát historial phonetic changes of the Vietnamese language contributed to its word formation. Historical changes of initials or cluster initials of words can resulted in formation of new words. However, these are not morphological or regular changes like morphological change of Indo-European language.
