Tóm tắt This article addresses the role of the apistemic markers in the negative politeness strategies in dialogues in English and Vietnamese. From the contrastive analysis of data collected from dialogue extracts in novels, shorts stories, the article found that English and Vietnamese have at their disposal a wide range of epistemic markers for the use of syntatic, semantic and pragmatic feature.
