Tóm tắt Based on propp’s theory, this paper presents the results of the contrastive analysis on 10 English fairy tales and 10 Vietnamese ones in order the highlight their layout features as well as the similarities and differences between the two languages in termof this genre. Approaching the English and Vietnamese fairy tales as written texts – the products of discourse processes, the paper focuses on idetifying the spectific functions of the objects under study with a view to helping language teachers and learners understand more about the discourse features of fairy tales in English and in Vietnamese.The findingd of the study can be applied in researching, teaching and learning the two languages.
