Tóm tắt L’article explore les enjeux argumentatifs attachés à l’activité de définition du mot « mariage » menée dans le cadre de la discussion du projet de loi sur l’ouverture du mariage aux couples de même sexe à l’Assemblée nationale en 2013. On examine d’abord les conditions d’émergence de l’activité définitoire dans le cadre du Parlement ; on met en évidence une forte tension entre la dimension stipulatoire de la définition et sa dimension descriptive. On analyse ensuite les modalités selon lesquelles s’exprime le conflit de définitions. Enfin, on se penche sur les moments du débat où les députés adoptent une posture réflexive pour s’interroger sur les rapports qui unissent le langage et la réalité : le désaccord tient-il à une « simple » querelle de mots, facilement réglable, ou existe-t-il un lien intime, indissoluble, entre la définition que l’on octroie aux mots et la manière dont on perçoit le monde et dont on agit sur lui
Tóm tắt This paper investigates the argumentative stakes attached to the definition of the word “marriage” during the discussion of the draft law opening marriage to same-sex couples in French Parliament in 2013. We first examine the conditions for defining activity to emerge in this context. We put to the fore the existence of a tension between the normative dimension of definition and its descriptive dimension. Then we analyse the forms taken by the conflict of definitions. At last, we focuse on the moments when deputies adopt a reflexive attitude to question the relationship between language and reality: is the disagreement on opening marriage to same-sex couples due to a mere war of words, which could be easily settled, or is there an intimate connection between the definition attached to a word and the way one perceives the surrounding word and acts upon it
